MACTEC FLG AWARDED ADDITIONAL CONTRACT FROM UNITED STATES COAST GUARD

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) recently selected MACTEC FLG (www.mactecflg.com ) to develop and deploy the Shore Facility Capital Asset Management (SFCAM) Program. William J. Faesenmeier, MACTEC FLG’s Director of Operations, made the announcement.

The $600,000 SFCAM contract will help the USCG create a program to make strategic decisions and develop, document and support USCG deployment of a holistic framework for integrated decision making of buildings and structures.

This project, which is the second awarded to MACTEC FLG for the program, is a supplemental contract to provide leadership and guidance in transforming the Coast Guard’s Civil Engineering Division. The first project was awarded in June 2004 at $1.5 million.

The program includes regional strategic planning and will involve:

  • Facility management metrics, which include ROI and these indexes: Facility Condition; Mission Readiness; Mission Dependency; Force Protection; Space Utilization.
  • Geospatial and information technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), which uses geospatial and architectural renderings to query data for facility management metrics.
  • Integrated Decision Making (IDM) methodologies. Resolves gaps between operational requirements and logistical resources for the entire enterprise. IDM reduces large amounts of data about facilities or operational requirements to a few critical management metrics, which can then be linked through analytical hierarchical processes.
  • Business Case methodology. Takes into account the above non-financial metrics along with the cost of the decisions being considered. Will generate and consider the best return on mission.

Over the past two years, MACTEC FLG has cultivated an outstanding relationship with the Coast Guard, which is now an agency of the Department of Homeland Security. In a recent issue of SFCAM Roadmap News, the Coast Guard’s newsletter, Captain Jay Manik of the Office of Civil Engineering stated, "MACTEC Engineering & Consulting are leaders in their field and are bringing the SFCAM strategy to fulfillment."

MACTEC FLG, helps clients reduce the cost of building ownership, designs facility asset management programs that minimize the ownership cost of clients’ physical properties and infrastructure. The company’s flagship product, Vertex, is an integrated suite of software that helps facility owners and managers document facility assets, evaluate current facility conditions, forecast asset deterioration and develop budgets for building systems life-cycle costs. Vertex converts physical assets into financial terms and produces a positive return on investment (ROI) on forecasted maintenance, repair and replacement (MR&R) costs.

MACTEC, Inc., based in, Alpharetta, GA, is a $436 million environmental, engineering, construction management, and infrastructure services firm with 3,000 employees in over 100 offices nationwide.
